Last year, as blog readers will recall, a New York fashion designer named Jennyvi Dizon celebrated her newly minted membership in the Jane Austen Society of North America by making a set of Austen-inspired gowns for JASNA members to wear at the Annual General Meeting in Chicago.
Now Dizon is creating an entire Austen collection for New York Fashion Week in September, and she’ll offer a sneak peek at her process during an April 30 Zoom event sponsored by JASNA’s Southwest region. Tickets are free, but registration is required.
On her blog, Dizon showcases some of the work that went into making her first new Austenesque design, the Emma gown – created, appropriately enough, for Cristina (Conti) Pineda, a real-life matchmaker (whom, as it happens, I introduced when she spoke at the 2019 AGM).
This year’s AGM is coming up at the end of September, so Dizon’s Zoom talk takes place just in time to provide inspiration to all the indefatigable Janeite cosplayers out there.
